Pottery classes and creative experiences in Mount Gambier

Beginner Wheel Class 2 hrs $120

Our 2 hour beginner wheel class is designed for complete beginners, so no previous pottery experience is needed! You will be guided through the basics of preparing and centering your clay before learning how to pull up a wall to make a cylinder. You get to choose 2 pieces from your time at the wheel to turn into finished pieces. The pots will be ready for pickup between 3-6 weeks when we contact you. They can be collected from reception.

Class includes:

2 hours of hands on clay time - All clay, tools and materials - Guidance from an experienced pottery teacher - Your choice of studio glazes - Bisque and Glaze firing - Your finished pieces ready to collect once complete.

Come curious, ask lots of questions, wear something you don’t mind getting a little clay on (it washes right out!) and leave with something you’ve made with your own hands.

Handbuilding Class 2 hrs $90

No wheel required! Handbuilding is one of the most relaxed and creative ways to work with clay. Using your hands and a few simple tools to turn a lump of clay into something completely your own. In this 2 hour beginner-friendly class, what you make is up to you. We will help you figure out the best way to build your piece. You will be introduced to simple handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab building, with guidance along the way to help bring your ideas to life. You can make functional pieces such as mugs, bowls or a vase or let your imagination take over and create something a little more sculptural. There is no need to be ‘artistic’ - we will show you the techniques and you can make them your own.

Class includes:

2 hours of hands-on handbuilding - All clay, tools and materials - Demonstrations of handbuilding techniques - Guidance throughout the class - 2 pottery pieces to take through to glaze firing - Choice of studio glazes - Both bisque and glaze firing - Your finished pieces ready to collect once complete.

A lovely way to slow down, get creative and spend a couple of hours making something with your hands.

6 week Pottery Wheel Course $495

Ready to go beyond a one off pottery experience? Our 6 week pottery wheel course give you the time and space to really get to know the wheel and build your confidence with clay. Over 6 weeks you will learn the foundations of preparing clay and wedging, wheel throwing and have the opportunity to practice and gain a rhythm on the pottery wheel. You will get to follow your pieces right through the pottery processes like trimming (fun!) bisque firing and choosing a glaze to finished pieces. Along the way you will create your own collection of pottery and, most importantly, gain the confidence to keep exploring your pottery journey.

6 Week Course includes:

2 hour lessons x 6 - Mix of learning Wedging, centering, pulling walls to make a cylinder, trimming your pots for the next stage of the process - All clay, tools and equipment - Step by step instruction and guidance - Time to practice and develop your wheel skills - Access to studio glazes - Bisque and glaze firing - Supportive and relaxed studio environment.

No previous experience is required. Just come ready to learn, practice and make lots of mistakes.

Ceramic Painting 2 hr $20 + piece

Sometimes you want to sit down, pick up a brush and make something beautiful - and that’s exactly what ceramic painting is all about. Choose a piece of pottery, which will all very in size, type and cost, and let your creativity take over. Whether you have a clear idea in mind or simply want to play with colours, patterns and designs, you will have the freedom to create something that’s uniquely yours. We will provide the underglazes, brushes and everything you need to decorate your pottery. No artistic experience is required - There are no rules and no wrong way to make it your own. Your piece will be glaze fired in the kiln, transforming your painted designs into beautiful, finished ceramics ready to take home.

Your experience includes:

A relaxed ceramic painting session - All underglazes and materials - Guidance if you need a little inspiration - Clear glaze application after painting - Glaze Fired - finished piece will be ready to collect in 3 - 6 weeks depending on kiln schedule.

Come along on your own, bring a friend, make a date of it. There are no rules, just relax, switch off and have a laugh.

Unique Mug Class 2 hr $90

Ever looked at a beautiful handmade mug and thought, “I’d love to know how to actually make one of those”? This class is for you. In this hands-on workshop, you will be guided step-by-step through the process of making your very own ceramic mug. You will be shown how to make one of Mardi’s cups she has carved out of a solid piece of clay. Very satisfying and great for beginners with no clay experience.

I will give you the basics, you can take the guidance and create your own version to have your morning coffee out of

Organic Shaped Plate 2 hr $90

Create something beautiful, useful and completely your own! In this hands of workshop, you will learn how to make an organic-shaped ceramic plate using a mould and a slab of clay. We will guide you through the entire process. You’ll learn how to prepare and roll your clay, create the shape of your plate, refine and smooth the edges, add texture or details if you’d like, and give your plate its own personality. The beauty of an organic form is that it doesn’t need to be perfectly symmetrical. In fact the little imperfections are what make it special. No two plates are the same.

Class includes:

Step-by-step instruction - All clay, tools and equipment - Choice of texture, glaze or underglaze for the finished look - all firings - finished piece ready in 3-6 weeks.
